The DSD-201 automated endoscope reprocessor is a dual scope reprocessor. Two endoscopes can be reprocessed simultaneously or asynchronously. Its design incorporates many different performance and safety features that should be considered when you're in the market for an AER.

Medivators focused on 4 main areas during their development of the DSD-201. Safety, Versatility, Speed and Cost Efficiency. In this article we'll talk a little about safety and how that equates to the highest quality of patient care. If the endoscope is used and cleaned as prescribed in the Medivators operation manual this unit does ensure the safety of its users and patients.

There are so many safety measures that have been built into the DSD-201. It has a complete microprocessor system that is connected to a multitude of advanced sensors that enables the monitoring of all cycle parameters.

  • There are optical sensors that ensure that the endoscope comes into contact with disinfectant chemicals and rinse water. This limits the risk of damage to the machine and enhances the safety of your patients by making sure the unit is not run at levels below the manufacturer's guidelines.
  • There are temperature sensors. These sensors make sure that the disinfectant solutions are ran at the optimal operating temperatures and that you are notified if there is an issue.
  • There are flow sensors that assure flow from the scope connectors into the scope channels.
  • There are lid sensors that will alert the operators if the lid is open.
  • Advanced microprocessor driven electronics. These electronics monitor the data received and alert users to any issues found through both visual and audible alerts.

Many other features were built in that could easily be overlooked. For instance:

  • The floating lid. This minimizes and restricts chemical vapors minimizing your staff's exposure to potentially harmful vapors.
  • The AER Water filter installation housing is designed with a click-into-place feature to assure it is installed completely.
  • The gasketed vapor cover additionally suppresses vapors that escape.
  • Medivators offers optional vapor management equipment as well.
  • The automated alcohol purge feature facilitates channel drying and prevents bacterial growth.

The DSD-201 also has the ability to print detailed records of its cycles. It includes operator, patient, scope and physician input fields along with the "cycle complete" or error messages taking the guesswork out of the process.

While this is by no means a complete list of all of the safety precautions that have been built into the DSD-201, it does cover some of the features that were purposely designed into the unit that speak to at least one of Medivators 4 objectives, Safety.
